Hidden among the heathland and woodland of Dorset’s Isle of Purbeck, The Blue Pool is a tranquil nature reserve centred around a striking former clay pit. Fine clay particles suspended in the water reflect the changing light, giving the pool its distinctive shades of turquoise, blue and green.
Visitors can follow woodland paths around the water, pause at peaceful viewpoints and look out for wildlife throughout the reserve. The wider site forms part of the 300-acre Furzebrook Estate, providing a beautiful natural setting for walking, photography and relaxed family days out.
For a little more adventure, brave the UK’s longest rope bridge or follow the Trail of Enchanted Doors to discover tiny homes belonging to fairies and other woodland characters. Younger visitors can also enjoy the outdoor play area and meet the pigs near the feeding area.
After exploring, stop at the historic Art Deco Tearooms for lunch, homemade cake or afternoon tea. Dating back to the 1930s, the tearoom offers indoor seating and an outdoor terrace overlooking the surrounding woodland.
